Dec. 31st, 2009

I had this whole post planned out. It was going to be a great review of the year that sucked balls. Then I decided to say screw this and tossed it in the bin. I’m not one for resolutions, and I’m no longer one for looking back on the past.

Thinking back ten years ago, I was working in a fast food restaurant, living in a small, slummy little apartment that kept my allergies on edge (I should’ve bought stock in the big pharmaceutical companies), I’d lost someone who was a mother to me in the summer, and I felt like crap in every sense.

Now, I’m living in a nice townhouse, I’m working in high tech, but I’ve still lost people that mean a lot to me, and I’m resolved to not allow this year and its related crappiness bring me down. This year has been the year of the “learning experience”. I’ve learned that I need to learn to say no. I’ve learned that other people’s neurosis is not my fault, and I can’t make them better if they don’t want to be. In standing up for myself, I’ve learned that the people who are most threatened are the ones who strike at you first. What they’re threatened by is individual to each person. Some just don’t like people who show a spine, some just don’t know what to do when the rules change.

For once, in learning to stand up for myself, I’ve learned how to be happy. That, if nothing else, has made this year worth it.

To all my friends and readers, may your 2010 be the best that you can dream and more.

See you in the new decade.
